Yacht Rock Weekend
Yachty Yucaipa!
What a Yacht Rock weekend for Yachty by Nature in Vegas! Last week, YBN started its summer tour of Southern California with a breakout performance at the Yucaipa Music & Arts Festival and continued on Saturday night at Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas. Friday night was Cinco de Mayo and with perfect summer conditions and a beautiful dusky atmosphere in Yucaipa, YBN rocked the yacht to begin a weekend of music and art in Yucaipa.
As the fun crowd built with each song, we gazed over a canopy of lights and people in the downtown area. Our style of A.M. Gold was captivating the audience to yell out their favorite requests and get on the dance floor and groove. Yacht Rock took over the night and favorites of the night were tunes like Steely Dan’s Peg, Rupert Holmes’ Pina Colada song, and of course, our encore specialty, Toto’s Rosanna! Oh What a Night!!!!! What a great feeling getting off stage to a loud ovation and the warmth of a great and thankful audience that rocked out with us on EVERY song. Yucaipa was a love fest and then watching the next group Sonorous rip it up was the perfect remedy for tired concert afterglow. Country rocker James Wesley closed out the night with a killer performance capping a fantastic evening of smooth music.
Vegas Baby…
Afterwards, the yacht rock weekend really began. In fact, after the show on Friday the band hopped in our cars and headed off immediately for our first gig in Las Vegas. Importantly, we rode the high of emotion with a smooth cruise out to sin city. Ultimately, the exuberant expectations and the anticipation of yacht rockin’ that big stage at the Brooklyn Bowl.
Waking up in Vegas and ready to hit the strip, I (Captain Carl) donned the Flamingo suit. In fact, we brought SMOOTH to a new level hanging out at the pool at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino! Selfies ensued and gawkers had plenty of action watching me strut through crowds of Kentucky Derby watchers that stared appreciatively at the Flamingos and Captain’s Hat cruising the strip. After all, Yacht Rock is a way of life not just a genre of music, right? Pretty sure Bertie Higgins would approve.
Yacht Rock weekend at Brooklyn Bowl
First, arriving at the venue for sound check, the band was so pumped! Amazing new venue for us, big sound, big lights, big stage and tons of SMOOTHNESS ready in the holster. Additionally, it was a healthy weekend crowd of early comers hustling in to get a good spot. Likewise, cracking the seal with a little Love Boat intro and then the groove of Ride Like the Wind to start the show. Ultimately, we could tell it would be an awesome night. Our Las Vegas crowd was epic!!!!!! We had a fantastic new crew of fans and many made the trip from Orange County too. Even better, we had a whole new crew calling themselves “dinghies” and “life jackettes”. Classic yacht rock weekend in Vegas indeed.
Thanks to our new Facebook friends and to old Vegas acquaintances. We added some amazing new crews of people outfitted to join our regatta. The dance floor ignited with our Michael McDonald tunes. And the crew was flowing with me as I surfed through the crowd on my keytar. Gotta love our new crew that spawned the term Dinghies and Life Jackettes to describe our male and female groupies! CLASSIC!!!!!! What an awesome bunch at the concert. Additionally, what a love fest for the music we adore. Smooth soft rock played with passion by Yachty by Nature. Lastly, THANK YOU LAS VEGAS!!!! In fact, I can’t wait to see these AMAZING Yacht Rock lovers again soon!
Finishing out the yacht rock weekend concert was a bittersweet farewell. But I know we’ll see our Vegas peeps again soon. Stay tuned and stay sexy Vegas!
