Rock the Yacht 2018
2018 Rocked the Yacht. The band appeared on the Rich Eisen show! In fact, the S.S. Yachty by Nature sailed smoothly to new venues, new cities, and so many new people. Of course, we celebrate every new venture, new song, and our growing crew of Yacht Rock enthusiasts…or En-smooth-iasts! In fact, the band even got out to some amazing concerts of our yacht rock heroes (Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins and Toto). And, we’ve also seen some of those heroes pass away this year. Specifically, the recent death of Captain Daryl Dragon of Captain and Tennille and Ray Sawyer of Dr. Hook really took the wind out of our sails.
2018 Most importantly, we thank our amazing fans both new and old. Thanks for being so supportive and making us Southern California’s ONLY choice when it comes to LIVE Yacht Rock. Of course, yacht rock was meant to be played by live human musicians so we play every single note on stage. We do so without any help from backing tracks. As well, YBN really appreciates fans who know the difference between yacht rock played live and yacht faking when a band uses backing tracks and ‘pretends’ that it’s live. In addition, let’s take a look back at the smooth seas we’ve sailed. Then, let’s look ahead to the fantastic voyage that our yacht will traverse in 2019.
Marty’s on Newport 2/1/19
Before we look back on 2018 the year in yacht, make sure to get your tickets to Marty’s on Newport for our show on Friday, February 1, 2019. This cool dive bar and intimate venue has an interesting history in Tustin. Especially, it is visited by top name acts from across the country like Berlin, Warren G, Reverend Horton Heat, X, and War. In fact, what an honor to bring our top rated Tribute to Yacht Rock to a primarily original band concert venue. Thus, it’ll be another first for our rise as the PREMIERE band on the Southern California yacht rock scene. Don’t miss the boat, there’s not a bad view in the house. And, it offers great food and a fun concert vibe. As always, look forward to a one of a kind yacht party type of show.

Rock the Yacht…Las Vegas!
Also, a quick shout out that we’ll be back at TopGolf in Las Vegas on February 16, so stay tuned for some really fun news and a trip to get Yachty with our Vegas faithful! In fact, the band has been dying to make a return to our Bae Watch crew! This Love Cruise celebrates a Yachty Valentine’s Day weekend. So, if you’re headed to Vegas or feel like visiting sin city with one badass Yachty Crew of musical sailors, get onboard! https://topgolf.com/us/las-vegas/
2018 the year in yacht, a look back…
Wow, what a ride it’s been for Yachty by Nature. Established in 2015, we were the very first Orange County yacht rock band. In fact, only Harbor Party (Los Angeles) and High Tide Society (San Diego) have been around longer in Southern California. Plus, we are the only California yacht rock band to regularly play in Las Vegas, let alone Arizona, and even the East Coast (North Carolina). In 2018, we were on tour taking 4 trips to Arizona, we must be doing something right! These Arizona travels included the Tropicana Laughlin, Arizona State Fair, Arizona Strong Beer Fest, and TopGolf Scottsdale. March 2018
In addition, we played many weddings in 2018. In fact, a wedding in Northern California on the Sacramento River delta. Furthermore, don’t forget our unforgettable night in Joshua Tree for Babes Ride Out! And then, two trips to Las Vegas including TopGolf and the Summit Club. TopGolf . On the other hand, our concerts in the park were tons of fun as well. Particularly, Born Free was huge and Ladera Ranch we packed the park with a record nearly 3,000 people. Wow, what a party that it has been.
Lastly, the band has been on fire and what a testament to our growing following and the fantastic yacht party we bring to Yacht Rock fans around the southland. Hence, the band couldn’t have been happier to finish the year in Yacht Rockstar form! Finally, we hit the big stage at Sea Legs Huntington Beach for the Anti-New Years party with party band, Tijuana Dogs.
Anti-New Years at Sea Legs!
Rock the Yacht Costello’s and Stillwater
Especially, we’d love to thank our first venues that gave Yacht Rock a chance! Costello’s in Mission Viejo and Stillwater in Dana Point certainly had faith to launch our brand of smooth soft rock. As well, YBN really had to convince Stillwater that Yacht Rock was viable and no sooner did they hire another fun yacht rock band, Captain’s Quarters. Most importantly, we love playing at these local South Orange County venues and we love playing to our fun and loyal fans that embraced this new genre of SMOOTH! Particularly, that fan base and the fun we’ve been having has been a contagious source of yacht fun that has helped us travel all over the place and get noticed by some really great venues in Arizona, Las Vegas, and beyond.
J.D. Ryznar comes to a YBN show!
Since Scotty McYachty and I began to get yachtified back in 2012, it’s been some kind of experience. First, we began hearing about this cool genre at an industry party and found it absolutely hilarious. Then, YBN realized there was a name for this genre of tuneage that we were always drawn to since the days of AM gold and riding in the back of the station wagon.
Finally, watching the transcendent YouTube series Yacht Rock helped us really turn the corner and understand what it meant to be SMOOTH. Furthermore, the creators J.D. Ryznar, Hunter Stair, and David Lyons geniusly coined the term Yacht Rock after realizing what a convergence of musicians like Michael McDonald, Toto, Steely Dan, etc. had in the 70’s and 80’s. If you’d like to see what these gents are up to now, check out their BEYOND YACHT ROCK. The band is eternally grateful for their wonderful creation. Although we play songs that don’t make the Yachtski Scale (Yacht Rock measuring tool), we appreciate their dedication to the genre!
Actually, we were fortunate enough to get J.D. Ryznar to our Concert in the Park in Monrovia in August and he raved about our ALL-YACHT ROCK set on twitter. Thus, we were ecstatic to get such high praise from the originator of the genre of Yacht Rock. In fact, here’s an amazing tweet from J.D.: https://twitter.com/yachtrock/status/1034211276392517632 . Ultimately, we even got a hall pass on playing the song Brandy. Which is unfortunately not a Yacht Rock song in their shrewd estimation. Lastly, if you want to go really deep, here is their reasoning on the song Brandy. Have no fear, we’ll use that hall pass to play this guilty pleasure!
National TV with Rich Eisen
2018 the year in yacht poured some serious gas on our yacht fire when Yachty by Nature ended up national TV! In fact, the Rich Eisen show spent 3 minutes on his show talking about the band. Inadvertently, our corporate gig had us setting up directly across from Rich Eisen’s El Segundo studio. And, he sent cameras out to film us. More importantly, his witty repartee and feedback on the band is priceless. So, if you haven’t seen the footage, make sure and check it out! Further, here it is below or check it out on YouTube:
Rock the yacht some more in 2019!
As you can tell, we love what we do and so thankful for your support. 2018 was an epic year and truly the band is just playing on another level these day. Please come out and see us. In fact, check the calendar, and spread the word over social media, email, phone or whatever! This year, we’ll have more merch for sale and feel free to hit us up for new songs. We always love to hear from our fans and keep our show alive. In addition, the band really works hard to bring you that great music, entertainment, and all around fun. Hope to see you in February at Marty’s, TopGolf Vegas, Daily’s in RSM, then Campus Jax and Tropicana Laughlin in March. Not to mention Costello’s for St. Patty’s Day and back to Sea Legs in a big way. We’ve got big things coming up so, stay tuned and stay yachty!
